FAQ

Immersive Courses

  • If you plan to travel on a U.S. passport, you will need a tourist visa to stay in Uzbekistan. Fortunately, it is possible to apply online at the Uzbek government’s e-visa portal. If you are worried about the process or would like extra assistance, feel free to reach out to support@unboundedu.com.

  • Uzbekistan is an extremely safe country to visit. The U.S. Department of State lists Uzbekistan at the lowest possible threat level for tourists: “Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions.”

While all travel assumes some risk, there is no more risk associated with visiting Uzbekistan than any major destination. Indeed, the low rate of petty crime (especially compared to common destinations like Spain and Argentina) makes Uzbekistan particularly safe for travelers.

  • Full refunds are available within 24 hours of booking. After 24 hours, IAA retains 15% of the booked rate. Cancellations made within 14 days of the program start date are ineligible for refunds. For questions or concerns regarding this policy contact support@unboundedu.com.

  • Yes! We’ll even do you one better. IAA has a room in the Tashkent Airport set up to help our guests manage the first minutes of their arrival. From providing translators to offering a comfortable spot to wait for your bags, IAA is there to help provide a seamless travel experience – even if you land late.

  • IAA Immersive Courses are ultimately about your enjoyment. While we hope you join us for every activity, we’ll never pressure you to join activities that don’t interest you. Instead, feel free to ask your guide for recommendations or stay and relax in your beautiful accommodations. While activities outside the set agenda aren’t included in your package, we will try to supply transit for your additional activity when possible.

  • Not at all! IAA courses generally occur in the morning for a set time. Once the classes are done, there is plenty of time to relax, see sites, participate in excursions, or work. While accommodating certain time zones can be difficult, IAA immersive courses are compatible with flexible 8-hour work days.

  • Tashkent is an international airport with daily connections to multiple cities. Most connections will route through Istanbul Airport. If you book on a single ticket, you will not need to exit the airport to make a transfer, even with checked bags. In addition to indirect flights, there are bi-weekly flights between Tashkent and New York. If you have any questions about flights and/or transferring in Istanbul, please reach out to support@unboundedu.com.

  • Food in Uzbekistan is extremely unique. The closest comparisons are Chinese, Russian, and Turkish with plenty of Korean influences.

IAA aims to ensure there are ample options for all diets. While those who are vegan or gluten-free may not have a plethora of options, IAA can accommodate these diets with advanced warning.

  • Absolutely! Every level of skill is welcome. We even set aside time before most classes for those who want a bit more instruction on the basic skills that will come up in the day’s class. For example, before cooking classes begin each day, our chefs show novice cooks how to hold the knife, cut each vegetable that appears in the dish, and more. This helps classes move fast enough for experienced practitioners while accommodating those at the beginning of the craft journey.

*Archeology is the only program with non-optional, IAA-led training due to local regulations for working on live digs.

  • If you plan to travel with a minor, please contact IAA before booking. Our programs sometimes involve the operation of heavy machinery, sharp objects, and delicate materials. We will do our best to accommodate minors but recommend receiving confirmation before booking.

  • IAA hires professional translators and guides so our students can understand their instructors and ask questions. Additionally, many Uzbeks (especially in Tashkent) speak at least a basic level of English.

  • Yes, accommodations the night before tours begin are always included. Most flights to Tashkent get in late, so we structured our programs accordingly.

  • IAA does not offer travel insurance but strongly encourages all participants to acquire a policy.
